Apart from its value as a historical novel, this book has been acclaimed for its fine descriptions of the mountain scenery. W. G. Collingwood was artist, historian, and writer, with a special interest in the Viking period. His output of published work covered the period from the 1880s to the early 1930s. Thorstein of the Mere is here reproduced as a facsimile of the 1909 revised and corrected edition published by Titus Wilson of Kendal.
